Photo  Statement

Photography for me, is both complex and minimal. As both a photographer and abstract artist, my love and fascination with conceptual design and composition are my primary motivations for capturing everyday images on film.

Choosing and knowing my subject matter, discovering the right location, timing my shoot in accordance with the weather and time of day, is where it begins. Knowing how I want to capture my subject within its particular environment is next. This primary element is crucial for me. Just like orchestrating a composition within an abstract painting or a modern assemblage, angling my camera and body to compose and capture that one 'key shot' through my viewfinder is essential. This experience, sharpened by my understanding and appreciation for design, color and my knowledge of how to arrange the subjects within the 'field of play' leads me to that one final moment of success on film.

My technical education from Wentworth as a mechanical drafting and engineering major, as well as my traditional and formal fine art training from UMass Dartmouth enables me to produce a final product of what I like to call Technical Fine Art Photography. Being able to combine the best of both these worlds places me in a unique category of fine art photographers.
